Ethical Research

Clinical Trials and Results Public Disclosure
Amgen is committed to the timely communication of scientifically valid results, both positive and negative, from our clinical trials.

Global Code of Ethics for Clinical Trials
Amgen is committed to protecting the rights of clinical trial participants worldwide. 

Policy on the Support of US Clinical Practice and Treatment Guidelines
Amgen occasionally offers financial support to independent bodies who develop clinical and treatment guidelines.  Amgen does not exert any influence or control over the development of guidelines that it has funded.

Adverse Event Reporting
An “Adverse Event” is any new, undesirable medical experience or change in an existing condition which occurs during or after use of any marketed or investigational product.  Amgen staff are required to report Adverse Events within one business day.

Interactions with Healthcare Professionals and Other Customers
Amgen requires that all interactions with healthcare professionals and other customers comply with all applicable laws and adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics and responsibility.

Commitment to the Ethical Use of Animals in Research
Most regulating bodies, including the FDA, require that potential medicines be thoroughly tested in animals prior to human testing.  In our research, Amgen seeks to eliminate or reduce impact to animals, to provide high quality care to laboratory animals, and to use alternatives to animal research whenever possible.

Amgen enforces strict limits on gifts, meals and other items provided to medical or health professionals.

All of our U.S. promotional materials are reviewed for rigorous consistency with FDA-approved product labeling.  Our marketing practices are based on valid scientific evidence.

The Amgen Foundation considers grant requests from regional, national and European nonprofit organizations that work to advance science education, improve quality of care and access for patients, and create sound communities where Amgen staff members live and work.

Do the Right Thing: Compliance and Ethics Standards for Amgen Staff and Contractors
All staff members are required to complete Amgen’s mandatory course on ethical business conduct and compliance.  Amgen expects every staff member and contractors to conduct business ethically, to comply with all applicable laws, and to exert due diligence in preventing and detecting violations of laws or policies.

Economic Sanctions, Embargoes and Boycotts
It is Amgen’s policy to comply with applicable sanctions and embargoes imposed by countries in which Amgen operates.

Export Control Laws
Amgen complies with all U.S. export control laws which may restrict the export of goods, software, and technology from the United States.

Foreign Corrupt Practices
Amgen maintains a strict policy against paying, offering to pay, or authorizing the payment of anything of value to any foreign (i.e. non-U.S.) government official, government staff member, political party or political candidate in an attempt to influence a person working in an official capacity.
